Third-Party Software Notices

This page supplements the Terms of Service (Section 11). Exif Forge is built with open-source software. The components below carry license obligations that require this notice. A complete dependency list (including the many MIT- and Apache-2.0-licensed Rust and JavaScript libraries used) will accompany the 1.0 release. The same notice ships inside the application, in its resources directory.
libheif and libde265 — LGPL-3.0-or-later
Exif Forge decodes HEIC / HEIF images using libheif and the libde265 HEVC decoder. Both are licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License, version 3 or later, and are statically linked into the Exif Forge application binary on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Written offer (valid for three years from the release date of the build you received): the complete corresponding source code for libheif and libde265 as used in a given build, together with the Exif Forge object code in a form that permits you to relink the application against a modified version of those libraries, is available at no charge. Request it by email, including the Exif Forge version number shown in Settings:
The libheif / libde265 sources are also reproducible from public information: the build uses the aom decoder only (feature set libheif[core,aom], never the GPL-encumbered x265 encoder), pinned to a fixed vcpkg revision.
libaom (AV1) — BSD-2-Clause and Alliance for Open Media Patent License 1.0
Used by libheif for AVIF and for HEIC images that require an AV1 decoder. aomedia.googlesource.com/aom
ExifTool — Artistic License 1.0 / GPL-1.0-or-later (dual)
Exif Forge reads and writes metadata by invoking ExifTool as a separate, unmodified command-line program. ExifTool is bundled in the application's resources directory and is not linked into the Exif Forge binary. Its own license file is included alongside it. Source: github.com/exiftool/exiftool.
