Exif Forge

Terms of Service

Last updated: August 30, 2026

Beta Program Notice

Exif Forge is currently in a free, open beta. During the beta, the Software is provided free of charge and Sections 3 (Subscription and Billing) and 4 (Cancellation) below do not currently apply — no payment is required, no subscription is active, and no payment method is stored. These sections describe the terms that will apply once the beta ends and paid plans launch. Nothing is ever billed automatically: when the beta ends you will be asked, in the app, to start a paid subscription and activate a license key if you wish to continue writing metadata. A read-only viewer remains free, and your local data (edits, presets, settings) is unaffected either way.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Exif Forge (“the Software”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Software.

2. License Grant

Subject to these Terms and payment of the applicable subscription fee, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Software on up to three (3) devices that you own or control, for your personal or professional use.

You may not sublicense, sell, resell, transfer, assign, or otherwise commercially exploit the Software. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software except to the extent permitted by applicable law.

We are not responsible for copies of the Software distributed through third-party channels. Only downloads obtained directly from our official website are verified and supported.

3. Subscription and Billing

The Software is offered on a subscription basis (monthly or yearly). Subscriptions are managed and billed by Lemon Squeezy. By subscribing, you also agree to Lemon Squeezy's terms and conditions. We do not store your payment information.

Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period. You can cancel at any time through the Software's Account settings or by contacting us.

4. Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time. Your access continues until the end of the current billing period, after which the app reverts to the free plan.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Software to:

  • Violate any applicable law or regulation
  • Infringe the intellectual property rights of others
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to our API or services
  • Distribute, share, or resell license keys

6. Updates and Changes

We may release updates to the Software from time to time. Active subscribers receive all updates at no additional cost. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Software at any time with reasonable notice.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Software is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Software will be error-free or uninterrupted.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, revenue, or profits, arising from your use of the Software, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total liability to you for any claims arising under these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

9. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Germany.

10. Third-Party Software and Open Source Licenses

Exif Forge incorporates third-party open-source components, some of which carry their own license terms that apply to you in addition to these Terms. In particular, the HEIC / HEIF decoding libraries libheif and libde265 are licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License, version 3 or later (LGPL-3.0-or-later), and are statically linked into the Software. As required by that license, we make a written offer, valid for three years from the release date of your build, to provide the corresponding source code and relinkable object code for those libraries at no charge.

The full notices, license links, and instructions for exercising the written offer are set out on the Third-Party Software Notices page, which forms part of these Terms. The same notice also ships inside the application, in its resources directory. Nothing in these Terms limits any rights granted to you directly under those open-source licenses.
